People living in parts of northern USA & Canada experienced a rare overnight view of the aurora borealis during the weekend. Bright ribbons of light in the skies above Vermont, Michigan, New Hampshire and parts of Canada displayed the show in the sky.
According to the weather center the aurora might have also been visible from places as low as New York to Wisconsin to Washington State. Unfortunately for many stargazers cloud coverage diminished chances of seeing the northern lights.
A geomagnetic storm precipitated by a solar flare on Friday caused the spectacle.
