The Israeli government has appealed to the USA to nullify UNSC Resolution 2234, which demands the Jewish military regime to halt all settlement expansion in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Israeli foreign ministry made the request to the US ambassador to the UN earlier this week. Tel Aviv also called on the USA to reduce the activities of UN bodies related to the Palestinian issue and slash their budget and manpower.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) approved Resolution 2234 in December 2016 by a vote to 14-0 with the USA abstaining. The Israeli military regime has invaded and occupied the Jordanian West Bank some 50 years ago, and never shifted to find a solution for a possible two state solution.
Building so-called settlements (military camps) in occupied territories is against international law. That why the UNSC passed Resolution 2234, to put an end to the illegal urban development. In the meanwhile millions of Palestinians have been deported to refugee camps in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon.
The other Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank are forced to pay taxes to the Israeli regime, so they can cover the military occupation costs connected with securing the invaded territories. Resolution 2234 states that Israel’s establishment of settlements in occupied territories ‘had no legal validity’.
The Israeli military occupation constitutes a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the vision of the so-called democratic two state solution. Resolution 2234 also demands that Israel immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem.
However the Netanyahu regime ignores the UN mandate and continues to grant permission to developers to continue building urban military style camps in the West Bank. The construction does not stop, and now Israel wants the USA to nullify the resolution and boycott the UN budget in order to continue its war crimes?
Over 500.000 Israeli’s live in over 230 settlements across the West Bank, since the 1967 occupation of the Palestinian territories. Palestinians protesting against the construction are either deported or jailed under the disguise of state security violations.
The continued expansion of Israeli settlements is one of the major obstacles to the establishment of peace in the Middle East. The Israeli regime violates and sabotages any input in solving this ongoing matter. Even the 1993 and 1995 Oslo Accords (UNSC Resolutions 242 and 338) were never implemented.
