A couple of Japanese F-15 fighter jets have joined the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier strike group to conduct exercises with US F-18’s south of Japan near the Korean peninsula.

The exercise will reportedly train air operation and communication to improve the combat ability for both US and Japanese military forces in a possible confrontation with North Korea.

The US carrier strike group was also joined by two Japanese destroyers last Sunday for two days of exercises. Together with the Japanese destroyers, Ashigara and Samidare, the USS Carl Vinson will be later deployed to the waters near the Korean peninsula, in show of force to North Korea, who has threatened to sink the warships.
