Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, has called for an immediate cessation of the Israeli regime’s settlements expansion in occupied Palestinian lands.
On January 15, 2017 the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has agreed on a final declaration of the importance of safeguarding the Two-State Solution.
The UNSC adopted resolution 2234, to end the Israeli occupation that begun in 1967. The invasion, annexation and colonization at the cost of tax-paying Palestinians must be brought to an indefinite hold. Israel also occupies the Syrian Golan Heights (protected by UN peacekeeping forces) and isolated almost 2 million Palestinians living in the Egyptian Gaza Strip.
Since the state of Israel was established, the Middle East has been a bloody war zone. At the moment most of the Arab nations are in some kind of state of war, while the Israeli’s live in so-called peace surroundings.
Abbas’ remarks come as Israel has stepped up its settlement activities to create covert military strongholds in the occupied lands, despite a UN resolution that calls on Israel to halt its construction of settler outposts. Recently the Zionist government in Tel-Aviv approved the construction of 1.162 units in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli Knesset (parliament) voted 60 to 52 in order to pass the controversial bill that legalizes thousands of settler homes built on privately owned Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank. The PLO calls the move and new law, the legalization of theft of Palestinian land.
Security Council Resolution 2234 calls on Israel to immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in occupied territories. It also states Israel’s settlement construction has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law.
About 600.000 Israeli’s already live in over 230 illegal settlements built since the Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The Israeli settlement-ratio has risen with 3.9% since 2015, twice the growth rate of the Israeli population today.
