Moscow received requests from 7 countries in Latin America, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific to buy Russia’s the new Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets armed with supersonic BrahMos cruise missiles.
Most of these countries already have the Su-30S in their possession, in order to defend their airspace against hostile enemy threats. The 2.5 metric ton supersonic BrahMos air-to-ground missile can be fired from the Su-30MKI after just a few modifications.
The Indian Air Force has the Sukhoi Su-MKI fighter jet and will be the first foreign country to test-fire the airborne version of the BrahMos supersonic missile next month. Venezuela also showed interest in some innovative exposure.
A hypersonic version of the BrahMos (II) cruise missile, capable of flying @ up to 5.000 km p/h, is expected to be introduced in 2020.
