The UK Royal Air Force (RAF) scrambled its Typhoon fighters based in Romania in response to the Russian aircraft closing in on the so-called NATO airspace.

The British military launched its war jets from the Romanian Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base near Constanta in response to a single Russian Su-24 FENCER aircraft operating near NATO airspace over the Black Sea.

However, the RAF noted that the Russian aircraft did not enter the European airspace. Such useless encounters occur on a regular basis, as NATO is zoning in on Russia’s doorstep since the invasive US-backed coup on Kiev in Ukraine in 2014.

Russia is concerned about recent NATO attempts aimed at involving the Nordic duo of Finland and Sweden into the hostile alliance’s activities and structures over the Baltic Sea.

A treaty was signed in May that provides for their full participation in the exercises of the alliance and the possibility of using its command-and-control systems for troops and weapons.

NATO is making serious attempts to stop Russia from becoming a strong independent player on the international arena. This trend clearly indicates that NATO countries “are trying in every possible way to prevent Russia from emerging as a geopolitical competitor.

In recent years, NATO has been building up its military presence in former Warsaw Pact countries located in Eastern Europe and the Baltic States saying it is protecting them against an alleged so-called “Russian aggression.
